Waffle Stop & Crispy Popiah

mmm... its been awhile since I have not been to Alamanda.. but at 3.30pm on a Saturday afternoon, I'd much prefer to to go all the way to Putrajaya to have a good meal rather than to be stucked in Shah Alam with only have a few choices of fast food joints.  As I had expected, there were less crowd and the food court, Rasa, was still half packed with people and still offering ala carte meals :)  typical of me and my son Zafree, we always have Teppanyaki (extra garlic!) and Adik and Al always have the Nasi Padang.  After that hearty meal, we were still hungry!  Memang dah jangka, nak makan waffle! I wished they would open up more outlets at other places, cos their waffles are really the yummiest!

Zachwan's getting ready to pounce on the yummy waffles with ice-cream and stramberry syrup.. he added the honey for extra 'kick' !

Zafree was happier with good old cinnamon flavored waffle... so warm and yummy!! Mama likes this one too :P

I used to have these 'yummy n crunchy on the inside' popiahs at Shah Alam Mall while waiting for my son attending his Kumon classes a couple of years ago.. but the stall is now closed and I could only hope to be lucky to find any of these babies at wherever malls i go to.. unlike the heavenly Salad Popiah at MidValley, these are spicier and stronger in taste.  Kidz love it too :)

Karipap HOMI

Yes!  Finally a great currypuff!  I am so disappointed with Ikea's puffs nowadays.. you just have to agree with me, Ikea's puff is not like it used to be.. puffy and yummy.  Sometimes if I shake the puff, I could hear the thumping sound like one hard dry filling inside the puffs! da penyet pulak tu!  The HOMI puffs, although a bit spicy, under 3 bucks each, but one piece will fill u up! Similar to 'karipap pusing', the filling is yummy, freshly deep fried and I could even taste the fleshy chicken bits :)

warning: not for the couples on their first date! crumbs and flakes bound to fall all over when u sink ur teeth into one of these yummies ;P~  memang untuk pemakan karipap yang dah veteran!!

Ani Sop Utara, Shah Alam

I'm not really a regular.. especially after I've already picked up a preference in having the 'sup tulang' at other Kelantanese restaurants around Shah Alam.  Of course, they have varieties of other types of sups and parts of the animal!  I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, but I like the way they upgraded their interiors and image.  This one in particular is situated at Sect 9, and traffic in late afternoon is not hellish like at Sect 2.  Its quieter too and plenty of parking space.  Menu is more or less the same,  I'd just rate their soups as 4/10.. but really, no other restaurants can top their 'sambal cili'.. that's a definite 10!

Zachwan dan nasi lemaknya.. not too pedas.  Tastes OK, but still not as great at Pak Itol's Nasi Lemak Tok Dagang at Klang...

Its a fav eating spot for sis, !qa.. Adik only likes it for its Nasi Lemak!  tapi pada I.. biasa jer nasi lemak dia.. maybe becoz I really like my uncle, Pak Itol's best.  Next time I pi Arafah kat Klang, I'd post a blog.  The atmosphere and new furnitures are very welcoming and spacious.  Bringing the soup eating rituals to another level!  But the outlet at Sect 2 retains its original decor... its not a bad thing I suppose, the place is usually packed with customers at most hours..

Zafran was ready to order..

Jeram Toi

I stumbled upon a few photos of this waterfall while looking for our usual waterfall hunting session.. mmm.. the only sungai I've been to in Negeri Sembilan was Ulu Bendol and that was yeaarrss ago!  I'm not familiar at all with the roads and districts around N9, but hey, I always tells Al that the journey is already an adventure by itself, and the reward is getting there.  So OK, we just need to drive to Seremban-K.Klawang and hopefully there will be a few signs, or locals to ask in case we got lost ;P  The surrounding areas was lush green and there were a few other forest parks and streams nearby...

Public amenities like chalets, huts, changing room, toilets and stalls are available and well maintained.  There were some works going on to upgrade the park and though this place is not as well known as Ulu Bendol, but it was obviously quite a favourite among the locals.  So avoid Sundays, especially in the afternoon. Untuk yang berminat nak camping atau sewa chalet, ada pejabat di entrance.. tapi haritu Ahad, tutup..

A short 300m or so walk on the cemented path towards the swimming pools and 3 tier waterfalls.  According to the locals, there are 7 tiers of waterfalls upstream, if one is very enthusiastic enough to trek... nyeh, ni pon dah termengah-mengah!

Pool in this photo ni dalam jugak.. about 4-5 feet, children's pool is situated at lower part of this water catchment (on the left).  Ada waterslides and although shallow, parents have to be cautious of the bad workmanship of the cemented surfaces around this area.

Walaupun kecil, air yang menderu agak deras..

The 2nd tier offers more fun in hydro shower!  Tapi kena scramble sikit turun from the cemented steps.  Very small and shallow pool :)

Zafree yang selalunya 'sporting'.  Ajak sekali jer naik atas, nak tengok waterfall 'Jom mama!'  Adik and Afan still at the bottom pool, playing with their tubes.  Nyeh! no sense of adventure... at 2nd tier, air terjun memang deras! Extreme Hydro Shower! Nampak jer kecik... tapi air menderu turun and cetek, air turun dengan pasir.. it gets into your eyes.. ears.. hair.. 5 mins dah x tahan! Tapi syok giler!!!

Air Terjun Jeram Toi yang menawan dan nyaman... :)

Lata Iskandar

Everbody who's been to Cameron Highlands would know about this waterfalls.  Along the old road from Cameron Highlands to Tapah, the almost vertical falls can be seen from the road.

Small pool.. children can play, but must be attended by adults... The smaller pool at the background is much shallower.  Its nice for showers, but definitely not for swimming and for the adventurous... u can 'terjun tiruk' in this pool, the deepest point is probably 5-6 feet...

Cemented path upstream.. there are about 2 more tiers.  From this photo, you can see that there isn't much parking space and there are a few stalls selling snacks, simple hot meals and fruits.  During this visit, there were some upgrading works going on and I'm not sure if there was any toilet or changing huts nearby..

Blocked by fallen tree.. this was about a year and a half ago.. maybe they've cleared the path..

Deep... and crystal clear. Water is super cold and refreshing.  There's not much room for picnic either.  I don't think most people come here to have a picnic or BBQs, they just want to have a short dip in the freezing mountain water..

I like this waterfalls.  Its quiet and the kids loved the clear water and pool.  A bit too deep for Awan, but nowdays we always bring our life-jackets, just to be on the safer sides.  Maybe if I get the chance to go to CH again, I'd stop by this scenic waterfalls and next time, I'll trek a bit further up to the 3rd tier :)

Gerai Pak Lang Ikan Bakar, Kg Baru

Strangely nobody ever recommended to us this place, cos I guess this place have been there for ages.  We've been to Tanglin a few times for the oh so delicious charcoal grilled 'Keli bakar', but one Sunday the place was closed and we just had to have 'keli bakar' no matter what! Pusing2 kat KL, and Awan noticed this place... good job Awan!  Slightly cheaper, grilled on hot pan and soooo many lauk-pauk to choose from! Everything is delicious here! I told Al, "ni bukan kedai makan, ni dewan makan!' Banyaknya tempat duduk, tapi penuh sentiasa!  Even at well after 3pm, the situation there is like in a middle of 'kenduri kahwin'! Sekali duduk, have to order 5 keli bakar!, or else alamat x merasalah nampaknya... beratur nak ambik nasi pun macam beratur kat pejabat imegresen... Have to queue for the ikan bakar and from experience, cannot come too early.. the fish is ready only by 12.30 onwards..

memang rugi kalau x try...! makan satu memang x cukup! although personally I think yummy lagi at Tanglin, but after been to other places, this is the next best one after Tanglin 8P~ and slightly cheaper also!  My 'must-have' lauk of course the yummy Paceri Nenas and Daging Goreng Kunyit Dengan Kacang Panjang... so delicious!

ikan ni dibakar dengan marinade kunyit, bawang, cili etc... i like it extra hot and tambah sambal belacan in the sambal air asam! pedas and menyelerakan!

Sun n Surf Cafe

When it comes to choosing high-tea buffets, its always the children's choice.  They love it here, it has everything a kid desires.  They even have a corner offering kiddies meals like chicken nuggets, fries, mini sausages etc.. My kids love it here for its arrays of sweet deserts :)  And some kueh Melayu also.. for the adults, from fresh oysters to rojak buah!

making our house his new home...

I was quite impressed with this kitten. And beginning to adore him as well. Don't bother asking about how the kids are responding to this.. they could not put the poor kitty down, not even for a minute!  Later, Zooomm! went to Kg Subang, to that quaint little pet shop at the corner in the middle of the old town where we used to buy our fishies and stuffs.. Cage.. cat litter box.. food.. bla, bla, bla.. He'd better be a good cat! Ah yes, we.. ehem.. I meant I, named him Lego.  Sebab putih macam Legolas. lame. nyeh.

silly cat.. tido atas pasir poo.. had to bathe him a few times. I remember the last time I had a cat was sometime in 1990.. one day Ateh left, there were 1 or 2 strays but none was quite like her.  She used to share papaya with arwah mama.. silly cat..

what? kucing? 21 Oct '08

Earlier, Adik have been bugging me about the idea of a cat as a pet for weeks now.. Nyeh! We are always out, who's gonna take care of its poo and Al HATES cats! Little did we know, on one normal day became one of the most memorable one that year..  As if we were like stones turned into butter, while lunching at Kedai Tepi Sect 11, Adik melompat-lompat tengok anak kucing bawah almari cashier minah Indon tu.  Adik was grinning from ear to ear, begging me say yes to the kitten. "Anak kucing ni baru sampai pagi tadi kak, orang buang! Mata dia merah!" the minah Indon told me and at that moment, I looked at Al and without a moment's hesitation, he nodded! Snow white furs, light blue eyes and long beigeish tail... We ate, but our hearts ran wild with apprehension and uncertainty about taking care of a kitten the size of a 'doa'... Adik dah terlompat-lompat lagi...

Adik melted at Melting Pot!

So young and yet so demanding! His 8th birthday and he wanted to have a place of his choice to celebrate his oh so important day! Well, I could not blame him, we never did a birthday party for him ever! and he's been very diplomatic about it these past years.. and deserves to pick a nice place and he chose Melting Pot, Concorde Shah Alam cos he reasoned, 'I can eat whatever I want and faster to get home cos I want to watch my SpongeBob afterwards' !

Food here is great. I loved the refurbished look and cozy atmosphere. Parking is not hell and really! food is good! Its RM60+ and children eats at half price. Normal lah. Not much of local stuff, what is local Selangor dish anyway? I'm a true Selangorian and still haven't a clue of Selangor's authentic dishes.  Anyway, Shah Alam offers plenty of choices in Malay menus and one could go to nearby local hotspots like Restoran Masakan Selera Kampung (Sect 9), Restoran Azira (Sect 10), Restoran A. Hassan (Sect 13) to name a few...

There are not many hotels in Shah Alam and the highly recommendable are of course Concorde (adik tanya kenapa hotel ni sama nama degan kapalterbang?! But its only a hotel ma, its not even an airport...why? *sigh*) and Hotel Grand Blue Wave.  These 2 hotels are always fully jammed-packed during Ramadhan buffets and Mother's Day! So one has to book early..
